Root & Branch, Swansea

2 July - 13 August 2022
Mission Gallery, Swansea

Following its exhibition at Karin Weber Gallery, Hong Kong, Root & Branch was presented at Mission Gallery, Swansea. Developed by Wai Kit Lam and Linda Norris with support from Wales Arts International, the project brought together artists from around the world through an exchange of postcard artworks inspired by trees, plants and place.

After Townsend’s original postcard was acquired in Hong Kong, a new work was created for the Swansea exhibition. Made from beeswax and based on the format of a postcard, it incorporated handwritten address details, a postage stamp and botanical forms in relief, transforming a familiar means of communication into a sculptural artwork.

The exhibition marked the project’s return to Wales before it continued to other venues, bringing together the diverse responses created through this international collaboration.
